Sheba Chapter, No. 1
Established in 1892, Sheba Chapter No. 1 got off to an auspicious start as the first Chapter in the State of Connecticut.
Sheba has faced many trials, surviving a fire and flood in its early years and through prayers of dedicated members and love from the community, the Chapter remained alive and well.
In 1976, Sheba established a scholarship for deserving graduates in the Valley community. The scholarship is still active as the Sheba Chapter No. 1 Scholarship Fund. In addition to scholarships, Sheba is a longtime supporter of the NAACP, United Negro College Fund, Valley United Way, JAT Scholarship Fund, Griffin Hospital (Breast Wellness Center, Women and Heart Disease Committee and Parish Nurse Program). Community service efforts continue with an annual back-to-school drive and participation with the Salvation Army ringing of the bell for the holiday season joined with support from the brothers of James H. Wilkins Lodge #9 and Order of Novae Ethelene Goldson #13.
